ADAMH Board “Week of Appreciation” Jackson County Champion award presented to Jerry Bentley
Annually, in the month of September, ADAMH Boards across Ohio, set aside one week to express appreciation and support to those working directly with individuals struggling to overcome substance use disorders. The Gallia-Jackson-Meigs Board of Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health (ADAMH), has been working the past few months to specifically visit behavioral health agencies, to personally thank and honor staff for the services they provide. Each person was presented with a small gift and a card expressing appreciation for what they do and that their individual role matters in the local behavioral health system.
In addition, each year, the Board seeks nominations for a “Champion” in each county’s battle against opioid addiction. “Across the three counties we serve, asking people to nominate what we call a champion, someone who’s kind of gone unseen, who’s out in the community, maybe not working for one of our agencies or working in a very public way but consistently helping people along. It is then our privilege to go to each county and present that Champion Award.”
Recognizing that the work of a “Champion” can be both heart-wrenching and thankless, we are proud to present the 2023 Jackson County Champion, to Jerry Bentley, “In Recognition of Your Superior Dedication and Tireless Work”
Mr. Bentley was nominated by a community member, “On a daily basis Mr. Bentley minister to individuals that are entrenched in addictions showing kindness and love to them. He shares his story of recovery and the success in overcoming addictions. He doesn’t set in judgment but shows them a way out. He links them to resources but he continues to provide support to all that he encounters. He’s a beacon of hope to his community.” Further commentary from others included, “Jerry Bentley has been in active recovery for over 11 years. He has active prison ministry and takes his time to visit individuals in surrounding jails over the past few years. He additionally volunteers his own time to help place people in recovery facilities and will follow up with them to check on how they are doing. He has been known to give the shirt off his back or drop what he’s doing to help place men and some women going as far as driving them to facilities hours away sometimes. Jerry has a passion for the recovery community from a perspective of love, forgiveness and understanding for individuals whom society has turned away.”
Congratulations to all of our winners, including Gallia County Champion Amber Richards and Meigs County Champion Destiny Dotson!

Destiny was nominated through her employer, Integrated Services for Behavioral Health, “Destiny began with ISBH as our START Family Peer Mentor. Destiny is so gifted in connecting with those struggling with substance use disorders and has profound empathy due to her own lived experience of living with and loving others with substance use disorder. She saw gaps in our care in Meigs County and jumped at the opportunity to participate in courses in her spare time (which is scarce as a mama of 5 boys!) helping her in her journey to earn her CDCA. Destiny transitioned in March 2023 from START Family Peer Mentor to Community Behavioral Health Worker with an emphasis in helping clients identified with substance use disorders. Further, she found a gap in support services for those individuals and began attending drug court to assist in coordinating care for her clients and created a support group for individuals living with substance use disorder. Destiny has her eyes on developing an Intensive Outpatient Program in the future and is working tirelessly to grow her skill set to better care for her clients. Destiny has a caseload with intensive needs but is diligent in following up, creatively connecting clients to resources to promote wellness, and quick to celebrate every victory.”

ADAMH Board “Week of Appreciation” Gallia County Champion award presented to Amber Richards.
In the month of September, ADAMH Boards across Ohio, set aside one week to annually express appreciation and support to those working directly with individuals struggling to overcome substance use disorders. The Gallia-Jackson-Meigs Board of Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health (ADAMH), has been working the past few months to specifically visit agencies, to personally thank and honor staff working in local behavioral health provider agencies. Each person was presented with a small gift and a card expressing appreciation for what they do and that their roll matters in the local behavioral health system.
In addition, each year, the Board seeks nominations for a “Champion” in each county’s battle against opioid addiction. “Across the three counties we serve, asking people to nominate what we call a champion, someone who’s kind of gone unseen, who’s out of the community, maybe not working for one of our agencies or working in a very public way that consistently helping people all along and then it’s our privilege to go to each county and present that Champion Award.”
Recognizing that the work of a “Champion” can be both heart-wrenching and thankless, we are proud to present the 2023 Gallia County Champion, to Amber Richards, “In Recognition of Your Superior Dedication and Tireless Work”
Ms. Richards received multiple nominations from the community and staff at Field of Hope Community Campus, “Amber has helped lead the creation of a Gallia County non-profit, Field of Hope. Her expertise at drug addiction recovery includes graduating cum Laude from Ohio Christian University in Drug and Alcohol Addiction Counseling and 20 years of personal experience in addiction. She is uniquely qualified to reach others and our message of recovery and hope. She goes above and beyond the call of duty every day on behalf of 25 member full time staff and 70 to 80 clients served by Field of Hope.”
“Amber goes above and beyond her role at work. She has empathy for others that are fighting for their lives in addiction, because she has been down that road herself. She is always willing to help our ladies in any way she can. As a person in recovery myself I know what that means when you are broken and lost. I nominate her because she has fought the good fight and won and is continuously helping others with their fight. She has put her blood, sweat and tears into the Field of Hope and is one main reason for so many success stories, including mine.”
“She has a heart of gold, and even though she is running a business she will stop what she is doing to go pick up someone when they call or try anything she can to get them help.”
Congratulations to all of our winners, including Jackson County Champion Jerry Bentley and Meigs County Champion Destiny Dotson!
